60-year-old traveler goes missing while sailing from California to Hawaii
A man sailing from California to Hawaii is being searched off the coast of the United States. Noel Rubio, 60, left Long Beach on December 28, but nothing has been known about him since.
The Coast Guard asks sailors to help find the missing man and report suspicious vessels in this direction. This was reported by ABC News.
Noel Rubio left Long Beach on December 28 on the 32-foot (9.7-meter) sailboat Malulani, according to a Coast Guard press release. He was expected to sail to Kaneohe on the island of Oahu after three weeks of travel.
The last time the captain of the sailboat got in touch was on December 28, when he was south of Catalina Island in California. Since then, no one has seen or heard from him.
Rubio's only form of communication aboard the Malulani is a VHF-FM marine radio.
Messages about the missing man or his vessel can be sent to rescue and coordination centers in Alameda, California, or Honolulu.
Such dangerous journeys are not prohibited in the United States, but the Coast Guard strongly advises mariners crossing the open ocean to use multiple types of communication. This will help authorities and relatives find them if the need arises.
