A Qantas baggage handler lost his job over an offensive word written on a tag
A ground handling employee at Perth Airport, who worked with the luggage of passengers of the Australian airline Qantas, has been terminated. The baggage handler wrote an offensive word on a passenger's bag tag.
Mr. Sonny Tilbury was traveling on a Qantas flight from Perth to Karratha, where he found the word "cunt" written in green marker on his suitcase after landing. The outraged passenger shared the photo on social media, Business Insider reports.
The passenger wrote a negative review, suggesting that the handler may have been unhappy with the weight of the suitcase (31 kg). This might have prompted them to write the offensive word on the tag, implying that assistance might be needed in lifting it.
Qantas "sincerely apologized" to Tilbury and offered him a travel voucher.
At the same time, passengers were assured that the person responsible for the insult on the tag had been fired. However, his name was not disclosed.
"This is unacceptable behavior. Menzies, the ground handling company at Perth Airport, has assured us that the baggage handler will no longer be working with the Qantas Group," Qantas said in a statement.
