A rare phenomenon in Iceland: volcano eruption coincided with the northern lights. Video
The Icelanders were able to witness a breathtaking sight as the glow from a volcanic eruption merged with the northern lights. This rare phenomenon was captured on camera.
The town of Grindavik became the focal point of the eruption a few days ago, but until now, no colorful patterns had been observed in the sky. Video footage from the scene was shared by the Associated Press.
Iceland has been experiencing tremors for almost six months now. This has resulted in powerful and violent volcanic eruptions, which have even partially destroyed a town near the epicenter of the seismic activity.
For several days, smoke and ash have been billowing into the sky above Iceland, and the eruption site has been illuminated by the orange glow of the lava.
However, nature decided to embellish the night sky, and due to a geomagnetic storm, the space above the eruption was adorned with purple and green streaks that shimmered in the moonlight.
As previously reported by TravelWise, the volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula is erupting for the fourth time in the last four months.
Iceland, known for its breathtaking scenery and natural wonders, has recently experienced a drop in tourist interest following volcanic eruptions.
