A snowboarder was stuck on a ski lift for 15 hours while people were looking for her on the ground
Snowboarder Monica Laso, while vacationing at the Heavenly Ski Resort in California, got stuck on a ski lift for 15 hours. Her gondola stopped in the middle of the cableway and no one heard her screams.
According to Business Insider, citing the Sacramento NBC affiliate, the vacationer was found only in the morning. "I had no phone, no light, no nothing," Laso said in an interview in Spanish.
The tourist took a lift at about 5 p.m. to get down the hill because she was tired. Although she was vacationing with friends, she decided to enter the gondola alone. Two minutes later, she felt hanging in the air without moving.
The snowboarder spent the whole night on the lift, trying to shout to the resort staff or random passersby. However, no one answered her.
At that time, her friends reported her missing to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office. However, they were able to find the tourist only the next morning.
The cable car is reportedly 2.4 miles long.
Kim George, a battalion chief and spokesman for the South Lake Tahoe Fire and Rescue Department, told the Associated Press that sheriff's deputies called for paramedics around 8:30 a.m. It is reported that there have been no such incidents in 23 years.
Heavenly Ski Resort COO Tom Fortune told Business Insider that the company is investigating the incident.
