A waterway journey through Somerset: what you can see
The English county of Somerset offers tourists numerous walking routes along beaches filled with fossils and areas of outstanding natural beauty. One of the most famous canal walks in Somerset is the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal Walk.
This incredible canal spans 14.5 miles and connects to the River Tone. It is rich in history, as it has been in operation for almost 200 years since its opening in 1827, according to Somerset Live.
To get to this stunning city, tourists can use many hidden paths. It will be a wonderful walk along the 14-mile-long canal, and it starts from Taunton or Bridgwater city center.
There are many hidden paths connecting the canal route with roads and footpaths between Taunton and Bridgwater. From Taunton, the path runs almost next to the railway line towards Bridgwater.
Incredible hidden paths can be found in Bathpool and Creech St Michael at the end of residential streets and away from the main roads. In Bridgwater, just off the main road, you can also find unnoticed scenic passages to the canal.
For those traveling by car, canal-side parking lots can be found at both entrances. Another parking lot can be found near King's Lock, which is located between the two major Somerset towns.
Some hiking trails connect Bridgwater Docks to the canal and sometimes run parallel to the River Parrett. You can spot seven different locks if you walk the entire route and maybe even a few boaters.
Despite the fact that there are busy highways nearby, many people do not realize that there is a place to walk. Tourists are strongly advised to find one of the hidden paths that lead to the canal route.
