Affordable Luxury: Berlin’s Generator Hostel Offers Unique Experience for Euro Fans
During the first Euro match in Berlin, a group of four can enjoy the city with a shared room at the luxury Generator Hostel for just £97 each.
Berlin, often dubbed the coolest city in Europe, surprises visitors with its vibrant atmosphere and rich history. On my first trip to Germany, I was immediately captivated by the energy surrounding Alexanderplatz, with its bustling crowds and the enticing aroma of currywurst from street vendors.
The Generator Hostel at Alexanderplatz, recently renovated with a multi-million euro investment, buzzes with excitement. The updated rooms, along with new shuffleboards and gaming spaces, have transformed it into a lively hub for travelers.
This hostel is a testament to Berlin's dynamic character, offering more than just a place to stay. Upon arrival, we explored the city’s culinary delights through a food tour by ToursByLocals. For €400, a two-person tour includes a guide, a Berlin map, and tastings of local delicacies. One standout was a tofu banh mi, a Vietnamese sandwich, highlighting the influence of Vietnamese immigrants who settled in East Berlin in the 1980s.
Berlin’s street art scene, guided by Australian expat Adrian Doyle, revealed the city's cultural evolution post-Berlin Wall. Doyle’s insights into the artists' motivations added depth to the vibrant murals and installations we encountered.
Back at the Generator, anticipation for the launch party built. The event featured an open bar, DJs, and numerous influencers, including the cast of Germany’s Next Top Model. The party lasted until the early hours, epitomizing Berlin’s nightlife.
Generator’s stylish ambiance and diverse accommodations cater to various travelers, from families to solo adventurers. CEO Alastair Thomann highlighted the hostel's affordability, with prices ranging from €15 for a bed to €850 for premium rooms. This flexibility makes it an ideal choice for budget-conscious visitors, especially during events like the Euros.
Berlin, always a captivating destination, offers even more during the Euros, with six matches scheduled. Visiting in June and July allows travelers to experience the city’s unique blend of history, culture, and sports.
