The Air Canada plane was forced to return to Heathrow due to smoke and deflated tires
Air Canada's Boeing 787-9, operating flight AC-856 from London Heathrow to Mumbai, had to return to the airport due to flat tires. The aircraft landed safely without any injuries reported.
The aircraft took off from runway 09R at Heathrow but ceased climbing at FL180, returning to Heathrow after approximately 90 minutes of flight time, as reported by The Aviation Herald.
According to the airline, the decision to return was made by the pilots upon receiving reports of smoke and flat tires. The aircraft's security system indicated zero tire pressure, and smoke was observed during takeoff, as reported by the control tower.
Upon landing at Heathrow, emergency vehicles conducted an inspection on the runway. Although the aircraft taxied to the gate, the flight had to be postponed.
The aircraft remained on the ground in London for approximately 24 hours for identification and repair of all faults before returning to service. There were no injuries to passengers or crew.
