Air India Moves to Haneda and Expands Connections in Japan

Starting March 31, 2025, Air India will relocate its Delhi-Tokyo flights from Narita Airport to Haneda Airport, a move expected to enhance accessibility for international passengers. Haneda’s proximity to downtown Tokyo—just 18 kilometers away—offers a significant advantage over Narita, which is located approximately 70 kilometers from the city center. This transition will result in shorter travel times and lower transportation costs, making it a more efficient choice for both business and leisure travelers.
As part of this shift, Air India has strengthened its partnership with All Nippon Airways (ANA) through an expanded codeshare agreement. This collaboration will facilitate smoother connections to six key Japanese cities, including Osaka, Sapporo, and Fukuoka. ANA passengers, in turn, will gain improved access to multiple Indian cities, reinforcing bilateral travel ties between India and Japan. These changes aim to streamline travel and optimize flight schedules for better passenger convenience.
For anyone passing through Japan as a traveler, Haneda will make cultural landmarks and business landmarks quicker to reach. The historic Asakusa district, the wide streets of Shibuya and most certainly the famous Tokyo Tower are within an elevator away from being more accessible than ever. Moreover, availability of high speed rail links from Haneda means that onward travel to Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima is seamless and multi-city itineraries are easier to put together and quicker to run.
Beyond Tokyo, the extended codeshare agreement offers travelers the opportunity to visit Japan’s diverse regions with fewer travel complexities. Tourists can now explore Hokkaido’s winter landscapes, Okinawa’s pristine beaches, or Fukuoka’s renowned food scene without the hassle of separate bookings. The enhanced connectivity allows for quicker exploration, which ultimately leads to an improved visiting Japan experience for overseas tourists.
This evolution represents a major step up for India-Japan flyers with more convenient access and better travel solutions. No matter if it be for business or pleasure, the changing of strategic location to Haneda is expected to enhance the overall travel experience by lowering logistical challenges and thus creating a bridge for more inclusive cultural and economic link between the two nations.
