Airlines are suspending flights of French citizens to Niger: what happened
Recently, it became known that airlines serving Niamey, the capital of Niger, have ceased transporting French passengers to this destination.
According to AFP, this decision was made after several French passengers were denied entry upon arrival. TV5 Monde reports that the situation remains unclear as not all carriers have commented.
An internal memo from Air Burkina stated that Nigerian authorities have prohibited all passengers with French passports from entering Niger.
The airline from Burkina Faso emphasized that it was not responsible for this situation. Royal Air Maroc allegedly received a similar instruction.
"French passengers traveling to Niamey can no longer board RAM aircraft without special permission from the Nigerian authorities, and this has been going on for almost a week," the source said.
Other airlines serving Niamey - Ethiopian Airlines, Asky, Air Tunisie, and Turkish Airlines - have not provided a clear response regarding whether they will continue transporting French citizens to Niger. The country's authorities have not yet confirmed the ban either.
It is worth noting that relations between Niger and France have deteriorated since the military coup of July 26, 2023.
