Alaska Airlines Surprises Main Cabin Passengers with Premium Class Upgrades This Summer

Alaska Airlines has launched an exciting new initiative called "upgrade unlocked," aimed at enhancing the summer travel experience for its passengers. From June 1 to September 2, the airline will randomly select at least one guest per day from its Main Cabin to enjoy a complimentary upgrade to Premium Class.
"Upgrade unlocked is our way of showing appreciation to our guests for choosing to fly with us to their favorite destinations this summer," said Eric Edge, managing director of marketing and advertising at Alaska Airlines. This initiative provides passengers the opportunity to experience the benefits of Premium Class, including the most legroom of any U.S. legacy airline.
Each day, a lucky passenger and their travel companion, if they have one, will be notified via the Alaska Airlines mobile app or email about their surprise upgrade. Premium Class seats, which are typically reserved for elite loyalty program members or available for purchase, feature four extra inches of legroom, custom-designed leather seats, and complimentary alcoholic beverages for guests aged 21 and over on flights over 350 miles. Additionally, Premium Class passengers enjoy early boarding, prioritized access to overhead bin space, and early deplaning.
The launch of "upgrade unlocked" coincides with a surge in summer travel. Over Memorial Day weekend, Alaska Airlines saw a 6% increase in passengers heading to sunny destinations. The airline anticipates even higher travel volumes leading up to the Independence Day holiday.
To meet the growing demand, Alaska Airlines has expanded its flight schedule, particularly in the Pacific Northwest. This includes increased service from Anchorage to cities like Chicago, Denver, and Salt Lake City, and the introduction of new routes to New York City starting in June. The airline is also launching nonstop flights connecting Portland to Nashville, and San Diego to both Atlanta and Tampa. These additions complement Alaska Airlines' recent international expansions to Guatemala, The Bahamas, and Toronto.
