AmaWaterways to Launch Two New Vessels in 2026
AmaWaterways has announced plans to introduce two new vessels in 2026. The AmaKaia will join the AmaDara on the Mekong River, while the AmaSofia will navigate Europe's Rhine and Danube rivers. These additions reflect the company's continued expansion and commitment to offering diverse river cruising experiences.
The AmaSofia, set to become AmaWaterways' 24th European vessel, is expected to launch on May 24, 2026. Its inaugural voyage, a 14-night itinerary named "Magnificent Europe," will trace the routes of historical figures, journeying between Amsterdam and Budapest. This route covers three rivers and passes through four countries, offering highlights such as guided bike rides through vineyards, visits to pretzel bakeries, castle tours, and culinary excursions in historic cities.
In 2026, AmaSofia is scheduled to embark on 31 departures, featuring multiple itineraries on the Danube River. These include "Melodies of the Danube," "Romantic Danube," and "Christmas Markets on the Danube," each promising unique cultural and historical experiences.
The AmaKaia is slated to begin its first seven-night cruise on August 3, 2026. This vessel will provide passengers with an immersive exploration of the ancient cultures of Vietnam and Cambodia. Daily excursions will include traditional 'xe-loi' (trishaw) rides, visits to workshops and monasteries, a Buddhist blessing ceremony, and opportunities to learn regional history from local experts.
AmaKaia will offer two seven-night itineraries, "Charms of the Mekong" and "Riches of the Mekong," combining well-known sites with off-the-beaten-path experiences. The vessel is scheduled for 22 sailings in 2026, with plans for at least 38 sailings in 2027. Additionally, land extensions will be available in several cities, including Siem Reap, home to the world’s largest religious structure, Angkor Wat.
