An American Airlines plane made a "hard landing" at Kahului Airport in Maui, resulting in six people being hospitalized. The flight originated from Los Angeles but was delayed for over an hour.
According to Business Insider, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident. The plane was immediately taken out of service for further inspection and maintenance.
American Airlines stated that the aircraft was carrying 167 passengers and seven crew members. NBC News reported that before departing from Los Angeles, the plane circled the runway for an hour.
During landing, the plane reportedly "encountered a problem," resulting in five crew members and one passenger being sent to the hospital. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed, and the cause of the malfunction is still under investigation. Police arrived at the airport approximately 20 minutes after the plane landed at Kahului Airport.
