An American Eagle Embraer E170 regional jet en route to Manchester Boston Regional Airport (MHT) was diverted to Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) due to a disruptive passenger. The incident, which occurred on July 3, 2024, involved a passenger allegedly exposing himself and urinating in the aisle, according to a statement by the United States Attorney's Office, Western District of New York.

The 25-year-old man from Oregon was arrested and charged with indecent exposure, carrying a potential penalty of six months in prison and a $5,000 fine. Assistant US Attorney Charles M. Kruly reported that Niagara Frontier Transit Authority (NFTA) Police responded to the incident at Gate 2 in Buffalo. Upon arrival, an officer boarded the plane and confirmed the flight attendant's report of the man's indecent behavior during the flight. The man was subsequently taken into custody and later released on his own recognizance after appearing before US Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy.

Flight AA 3921, operated by Envoy Air, was a routine two-hour journey from Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) to Manchester Boston Regional Airport. However, more than halfway through the flight, the aircraft diverted to Buffalo due to the passenger's disruptive actions. In a statement to Simple Flying, American Airlines confirmed the diversion and thanked their team for their professionalism and passengers for their understanding.

Following the diversion, the Embraer E170, registered as N771JV, landed safely at BUF, and law enforcement met the aircraft upon arrival. The flight then re-departed to complete its journey to Manchester without further incident, arriving after a 54-minute flight from Buffalo. This particular regional jet, which is 18.9 years old and previously operated by the now-defunct Ecuadorian airline Tame, is part of American Eagle's fleet of 40 Embraer E170s, each capable of accommodating 65 passengers.

The incident underscores the importance of maintaining proper conduct on flights to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers. American Eagle's prompt response and the subsequent handling of the situation by law enforcement highlight the measures in place to manage such disruptions effectively.
