Tourists visiting Amsterdam this fall have a unique opportunity to participate in an experiment organized by the Poppi Drugs Museum. The temporary "XTC shop" allows visitors to explore different models of ecstasy regulation through various distribution methods: via a pharmacy, nightclub, or smartshop. The shop will be open from October 16 to November 24, and tourists can engage in discussions about important topics such as age restrictions, purchase limits, and marketing.

This experiment aims to explore safe approaches to drug regulation and reduce risks associated with illegal markets. The shop is located in a cultural area of the city and operates on select days and hours throughout the week. Entry is free, and the organizers also offer tours and discussions for those interested in learning more about drug regulation policies in the region.

Tourists visiting Amsterdam should be aware of the city’s unique approach to drug regulation. Amsterdam's drug laws distinguish between soft and hard drugs. Soft drugs, like cannabis, are legal in designated coffeeshops, while hard drugs, such as ecstasy and cocaine, remain illegal. However, the possession of small amounts of ecstasy, up to one pill, is generally tolerated, although the substance will be confiscated by the police.

Tourists should also know about the city's harm reduction services, which offer anonymous drug testing at specific locations. This service allows individuals to check the safety of their substances, particularly hard drugs, helping to reduce the risk of consuming unsafe or counterfeit products. The Dutch government supports this harm reduction model to minimize health risks, offering testing services for a small fee.

By encouraging open discussions and providing harm reduction services, the city continues to prioritize public health and safety, standing out as a leader in innovative drug policy. Tourists participating in this experience not only gain insights into ecstasy regulation but also witness Amsterdam’s broader efforts to responsibly address drug-related risks. This initiative underscores the city’s commitment to reducing harm while promoting education on safe drug use.
