Australian tourist goes missing in Zimbabwe
An Australian tourist has gone missing in Zimbabwe near Victoria Falls, having been reported missing for almost a week before.
The 67-year-old tourist, whose name has not been disclosed, was reported to have gone missing on Friday in an area near Victoria Falls National Park in Zimbabwe, and officials said at the time that the search was being conducted with the help of sniffer dogs, The Guardian reports.
The spokesperson for the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Authority, Tinashe Farawo, said that the missing tourist was a man and that he was last heard from on February 17.
The tourist, who was traveling alone, was staying at a luxury lodge about 3 km from the rainforest park. On February 17, he told the lodge management that he was heading to the park.
However, the man was not seen on the CCTV footage, which was later reviewed.
Incidents like this rarely happen at Victoria Falls, a site that attracts thousands of tourists from around the world for its majestic water curtain that falls more than 108 meters from the Zambezi River to the gorge below, kicking up fog visible for miles.
