Avelo Airlines Tops The Charts As Most Punctual Carrier In May
Avelo Airlines has once again secured its position as the most punctual airline in the United States for May. According to Anuvu, a data services company, Avelo achieved an impressive on-time performance rate, with 88% of its flights arriving at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled time. This marks a continuation of the airline's stellar punctuality record throughout the year.
Avelo Airlines, headquartered in Texas, has maintained its top on-time performance every month this year. Additionally, it boasts the second-lowest cancellation rate among American airlines year-to-date through May. In May alone, Avelo recorded the lowest cancellation rate of any U.S. airline, with only 0.1% of flights canceled, significantly lower than the industry average of 1.4%.
The airline's consistent reliability is particularly noteworthy as it prepares for the busy summer travel season. With a fleet of 16 aircraft, Avelo's operational efficiency sets it apart in the competitive aviation market.
Avelo Airlines' journey began in 1987 as Casino Express Airlines, a charter service shuttling passengers to Elko Regional Airport for the Red Lion Hotel and Casino in Nevada. After a brief stint with scheduled services under Tahoe Air in 1999, the airline rebranded to Xtra Airways in 2005, focusing on private charters for sports teams, businesses, and government agencies.
In 2018, Andrew Levy, former CFO of United Airlines, took over and steered the airline towards an ultra-low-cost strategy. By February 2020, the airline had a new holding company, Houston Air Holdings, and began acquiring new Boeing 737 aircraft. The rebranding to Avelo Airlines occurred in April 2021, and the airline commenced ticket sales for flights from Hollywood Burbank Airport.
Today, Avelo operates seven Boeing 737-700 and nine 737-800 aircraft, serving 44 destinations across the United States from its bases in Burbank, New Haven, Orlando, Raleigh/Durham, Santa Rosa, and Wilmington. The airline's commitment to punctuality and low cancellation rates underscores its focus on reliability and customer satisfaction.
