Boeing 787 crossed the Atlantic for the first time using environmentally friendly fuel
British airline Virgin Atlantic has made its first long-haul flight using only environmentally friendly SAF fuel. In this way, the company aims to reduce the impact of harmful substances from air travel.
A Boeing 787 passenger plane flew from London to New York. GovTech reported that the flight took place in November 2023.
The publication noted that there is currently not enough SAF fuel for all airlines in the world. However, some carriers are starting to use some of it in their fuel mixtures.
What does SAF fuel consist of?
SAF alternative fuel consists of a combination of several energy sources. The fuel includes household waste and cooking oil. It is noted that the latter component emits greenhouse gases, but emits 50-80 percent less carbon than standard jet fuel.
