Booking.com warned tourists of a new scam: What you need to know

Booking.com has warned tourists about a "likely coordinated attack" by fraudsters. Due to the malicious link, travellers may face problems when booking hotels.

According to MyLondon, the scam appears after booking hotels through Booking.com. Visitors to the site receive emails from "[email protected]" asking them to confirm payment for the hotel by clicking on a malicious link.

Previously, this problem was linked to a hack of the hotel system, but spokespeople for the service said that a coordinated attack by fraudsters is now taking place.

The commentary reads,  "Ensuring the safety and reliability of our platform for our partners and customers is a top priority for us. Some of our partners have unfortunately been targeted by very convincing and sophisticated phishing tactics that encourage them to click on links or download attachments."

The site's security team is currently trying to neutralize the spam, but tourists are still urged to be careful and not to click on suspicious links.

Booking.com added, "We recommend that customers make payments only through our platform, where we manage secure payment processes. If a customer has any concerns about a payment message they receive, we encourage them to check the property's payment policy, which can be easily found on the listing page, or contact our customer service team, which is available for support 24/7."
