Britain bans Russians from visa-free transit at airports
The United Kingdom has banned visa-free transit at airports for Russians since October 6.
The new rules were published on September 8, but the transition period will last until October 6. Prior to the rule change, a visa was required only for transit with passport control.
From September 8, 2023, citizens of Russia and Georgia will need visas to transit the UK. Those who bought tickets before September 8 will be able to use visa-free transit at London Heathrow and Gatwick airports, as well as in Manchester.
Tickets must be valid for travel until October 6, 2023. After that, visa-free transit is completely canceled.
However, there are exceptions to the visa-free transfers. For example, a valid visa to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the United States, a residence permit from these countries, Switzerland, or one of the countries of the European Economic Area.
