Canine Commuters Can Now Enjoy Annual Boat and Rail Passes
Dogs are getting their own travel season tickets to make their adventures in the Lake District more convenient and enjoyable. The Ullswater Steamers and the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway have introduced annual "Rover" season tickets for just £20. Each ticket purchase includes a 10% donation to animal charities.
Starting this summer, dogs can take advantage of the new season tickets for unlimited travel on boats and trains for an entire year. Regular daily rates for canine passengers are £2.50 for the railway and £1 for a boat trip. In 2023 alone, more than 6,000 dogs used the railway, while over 10,000 enjoyed boat rides.
The initiative also supports various animal charities. Proceeds from the railway season tickets will go to The Dog’s Trust, while funds from the Ullswater Steamers tickets will benefit Eden Valley Animal Rescue and Oaktrees Animal Sanctuary in Wetheral. With these season tickets, dogs can enjoy unlimited travel throughout the year, receive a fashionable bandana, and contribute to a good cause.
Rachel Bell from Lake District Estates emphasized that Cumbria is known as a "very popular dog-friendly destination." She added, "Every dog deserves to join in with family days out," highlighting the region’s commitment to welcoming canine visitors. The new "Rover" season tickets are now available for purchase, providing dogs with a year of exciting travel and adventures in one of the UK’s most picturesque regions.
