Delta passenger told flight attendant he had a "bomb or gun" in his briefcase and went to jail: details
A man suspected of creating a terrorist threat was detained at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Charles Kent Kubie, 59, allegedly threatened a flight attendant who asked him to shift his briefcase.
At about 17:29 on Tuesday, police arrived at the airport and arrested the suspect, CBS reports. According to law enforcement officials, Kent Kubie was on board a Delta flight.
During boarding, the flight attendant asked the passenger to move his luggage, and he allegedly told her that there could be one of three things inside: "money, a bomb, or a gun".
The flight attendant reported the problematic tourist to the captain, who called the police. After examining the cabin for explosives, nothing suspicious was found.
However, Kubie was still detained and taken to the Travis County Jail. He is accused of making a terrorist threat.
The airport said in a statement that the passenger was disruptive, but the incident did not affect other flights.
A Delta spokesperson said: "After an initial delay due to severe weather conditions, Delta Flight 1071 was further delayed due to passenger disruption, requiring the involvement of local law enforcement. We apologize to our customers for any delay in their travels."
