Discover Wales' Most Stunning Beach: Newborough Beach in Anglesey
Newborough Beach, also known as Llanddwyn Beach, in Anglesey, Wales, has been hailed as the UK's most beautiful beach by British visitors, drawing crowds with its breathtaking scenery and pristine sea.
The UK isn't typically associated with idyllic beaches, especially given recent issues with sewage spills. Many Brits prefer the sunny shores of Spain and Greece for their beach vacations, but Newborough Beach stands out as an exception.
Despite the cold waters, the beach is popular for water sports like paddleboarding and has remained remarkably untouched by industrialization. Travel enthusiast Aiimee Beaufort, known as Mays Map on social media, showcased the beach in a video that begins with a picturesque forest pathway leading to vast golden sands against the backdrop of Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsula.
"This beach is where the clear blue sea meets a picturesque forest, incredible mountains, and wild horses roam across Lovers Island (Ynys Llanddwyn)," Aiimee described. She also shared a local legend about sacred eels in a well on Ynys Llanddwyn, believed to predict the success of couples' relationships. Aiimee's visit left her in awe, exclaiming that she couldn't believe such beauty existed in the UK.
Locals and visitors alike praise the beach as a must-see destination. A resident noted, "I'm so lucky to live down the road from here - it's the most amazing place." Another visitor commented on the stunning summer sunsets, and a third called it "the most beautiful beach I've ever been to."
Located on Anglesey Island off the northwest coast of mainland Wales, the Blue Flag Beach is part of the Neborough National Nature Reserve. It's easily accessible via the Britannia Bridge, which accommodates both pedestrians and vehicles. While driving is recommended due to the distance from the nearest train stations (Bangor and Holyhead), parking is available for a fee: £2 for the first two hours, then 40p per additional 20 minutes, capping at £7 for a full day. However, overnight parking isn't allowed, and spaces fill up quickly in peak season.
For those considering an overnight stay, options range from the luxurious Tre-Ysgawen Hall and Spa, costing £366 for a weekend stay, to more affordable camping sites starting at £28 per night. Though the weather can be unpredictable, camping remains a popular choice for budget-conscious travelers.
Newborough Beach offers a stunning escape within the UK, combining natural beauty with a touch of legend, making it a favorite for both locals and tourists.
