DiscoverEU offers young people the opportunity to travel across Europe for free. As part of the Erasmus program, thousands of rail passes will be given to those who meet the age criteria. This provides a chance to explore Europe over the course of several weeks. To apply, you must be a resident of one of the EU countries or associated states, such as Norway or Turkey, and pass a quiz about the EU. Applications are open until mid-October.

Successful applicants will receive a rail pass for second or economy class travel, along with a European Youth Card that offers discounts on various activities across the EU. The pass covers several days of travel within a month, and for remote regions, ferries or flights may be included.

DiscoverEU participants can benefit from discounts through the European Youth Card, which offers savings on transportation, cultural visits, and even food throughout Europe. If you're traveling to remote areas, remember that the program sometimes includes ferries or even flights, making all regions of Europe accessible. Using sustainable transport options, such as trains, is encouraged as it helps reduce your environmental impact while exploring the continent.

Additionally, for those traveling under the DiscoverEU program, it is crucial to plan your trip in advance to ensure comfort and a pleasant experience. First, thoroughly research your destinations and book accommodations early to avoid last-minute stress. Safety should also be a priority — keep your documents, such as your European Health Insurance Card, easily accessible, and have spare copies of important reservations. It's also helpful to inform your family or friends about your travel itinerary and check local safety guidelines in each destination.

By providing free rail passes and discounts through the European Youth Card, the program encourages sustainable travel and helps participants experience the rich diversity of the continent. Whether it's through exploring iconic cities or venturing to remote regions, this initiative fosters personal growth and cross-cultural connections. Proper planning, prioritizing safety, and making the most of the available resources ensure that participants will have a rewarding and unforgettable journey.
