EasyJet launches direct flights from the UK to this little-known coastal city in Europe
Brand new flight routes will open up an unexplored vacation destination for the British. Compared to the hotspots of the rest of Europe, Montenegro is almost ignored by the British, despite its stunning scenery, great beaches and very cheap beer.
Now the country is ready to welcome a new wave of summer vacationers from the UK, with easyJet launching a new direct flight from Bristol to Tivat. The airline will operate flights twice a week on Monday and Friday from June 24 to August 31. One-way tickets will start from £58. This information is reported by thescottishsun.co.
Bristol will be the third city to be connected to Tivat by easyJet, with London Gatwick Airport and Luton Airport also offering flights to the coastal city.
Tivat has a picturesque harbour as well as caves, lakes and mountain trails. Speedboats depart daily from the bay to send people exploring the sea caves, and the city's bars serve beer for around £2.
Among the best destinations in Montenegro is Kotor, with its stunning reflective bay located next to a fascinating old town known for its winding streets and Romanesque churches. Among the hills at the foot of Mount Rumija, you can find the old town of Stari Bar. Its crumbling fortress looks impressive, and the city centre has many bars and restaurants serving beer and ćevapi, a local grilled meat dish often served with a sauce in a pita.
Montenegro is also home to 180 miles of coastline, along which some famous beaches can be spotted. One of them is Sveti Stefan, which contains a five-star resort built on top of a former 15th-century residential village that juts out into the sea on a small island. Its famous guests include Marilyn Monroe, Princess Margaret, and Brad Pitt.
For those who are not lucky enough to stay at the resort, the beach next to it is publicly accessible, so visitors can sunbathe and swim in the waters next to the island.
Those Brits hoping to head to the Balkan country for a summer trip will be happy to hear that easyJet isn't the only airline launching flights to Tivat this year. Birmingham-based vacationers will benefit from new flights from Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, which will operate weekly flights on Thursdays from May 2. This will be followed by a second weekly service on Mondays, running from July 1 to October 31.
A night for two in Tivat can be booked from around £20. For people looking for a more traditional vacation destination this summer, Jet2 is also launching new flights to Greece from three different UK airports.
According to Travel Gossip, the budget airline will increase its summer capacity to the country this year. This will include seven new routes that will be added to the airline's flight schedule. Among them will be five new routes from Liverpool Airport to Corfu, Heraklion, Kos, Rhodes and Zante. Jet2 will also fly from Birmingham Airport to Mytilene and to Chania from Newcastle.
