Emergency Evacuation of Greece Flight After Vape Ignites in Hand Luggage
An easyJet flight from Greece to London Airport required passengers to urgently evacuate the plane after the cabin began to fill with smoke before take-off. The unexpected situation triggered panic, with some passengers fearing a potential explosion, though officials later confirmed that the smoke was caused by a personal electronic device.
One of the travelers, who was on the flight with his father, described how the strong smell and thick smoke started moving from the front part of the cabin, prompting everyone to leave their seats quickly. The evacuation was accelerated as passengers slid down the emergency chutes. Although no one was harmed by the fire itself, one person sustained injuries from the slide due to friction burns.
The fire was traced to a battery and a vape device stored in a passenger’s hand luggage. This incident once again underlines the importance of following airline regulations regarding the safe use and transport of electronic devices on board.
In an official statement, easyJet reported that the flight, departing from Greece to London, had to be evacuated during boarding. The airline noted that all necessary safety protocols were followed and that passengers were taken to the terminal while they waited for a replacement aircraft. EasyJet emphasized that ensuring the safety of passengers is their highest priority and expressed thanks to the customers for their cooperation.
