Expanding Westward RER Line E Enhances Connectivity to Nanterre

In a move to bolster transportation infrastructure, the RER E line has extended its reach westward, now connecting Saint-Lazare station to Nanterre as of May 6th. With this strategic expansion, the RER E line not only addresses immediate transportation needs but also lays the groundwork for future growth and connectivity in the region.

This extension introduces three new stations along an 8-kilometer stretch, namely Porte Maillot, La Défense-Grande Arche, and Nanterre-la-Folie, enhancing accessibility in the western suburbs of Paris.The newly inaugurated stations boast modern amenities such as expansive ceilings, ample natural lighting, widened platforms, and state-of-the-art accessibility features.

Furthermore, they facilitate seamless transfers with other transit networks, including the RER A, lines L, U, P, metro 1, and trams T2 and T3b.Primarily aimed at enhancing transportation services in the western region of Île-de-France, this extension lays the groundwork for further development. By 2026, plans are underway to extend the line even further westward, culminating in Mantes-la-Jolie as the final terminus.

To accommodate the increased demand and to ensure efficient operations, the line will be serviced by new RER NG trains. Initially, four trains per hour will operate between Nanterre La Folie and Magenta from 10 am to 4 pm. Subsequently, with the arrival of additional rolling stock, a regular service schedule is anticipated to be in place by the end of 2024.
