Jersey's varied coast is a playground for sea lovers, featuring sheltered sandy coves perfect for swimming, golden surfing beaches, and rugged cliff-top hiking paths. Despite its small size, Jersey offers an expansive coastline with a plethora of activities for adventure, relaxation, and exploration. Here are five unique ways to enjoy the island's coastal reaches:

1. Dive Into the Waters

Jersey boasts over 30 beaches and bays, from rocky coves in the north to sweeping sandy beaches in the south. To make the most of a swim, plan around the tides, as Jersey has one of the highest tidal ranges in the world. For a high tide in the morning, head to sandy Grouville or pebbly Archirondel, and for an evening tide, paddle at St Brelade or St Ouen while watching a spectacular sunset.

Cold-water swimming is popular on the island, enhancing mental and physical well-being. Join local groups like Dips and Chips, a female collective that swims year-round. Alternatively, book a session at the woodfired Sauna Society at St Catherine’s Bay for 50 minutes of cycling between a hot sauna, cold plunge shower, or a refreshing sea dip.

2. Explore by Boat

Seeing Jersey from the water offers a fresh perspective. Book a fast RIB tour with Jersey Seafaris for a thrilling ride along the coast, packed with local history and the chance to spot dolphins. For a more laid-back experience, enjoy a sunset cruise on the Jersey Duchess, traveling along the southwest coast to Corbière Lighthouse. For an indulgent option, charter Longueville Manor’s luxury yacht, Fizz Too, complete with a seafood lunch, Champagne, and a personal steward.

3. Paddleboarding and Kayaking

Standup paddleboarding (SUP) is a popular sport in Jersey. Rent an inflatable paddleboard from Windmadness, Absolute Adventures, or Jono Watersports at St Brelade’s Bay, or Jersey Adventures at Archirondel. Beginners can book a one-hour lesson with Absolute Adventures, while more advanced paddlers can join a SUP yoga session with Windmadness. For an immersive island experience, take a SUP evening tour from St Brelade’s Bay to Portelet Bay Cafe for a pizza on the beach.

Alternatively, try a kayak tour. Jersey Adventures offers an exhilarating east coast tour from Archirondel to Mont Orgueil Castle. Jersey Kayak Adventures and Kayak Nomad also provide sea kayak tours at various locations around the island, with departure points confirmed by text the night before.

4. Scenic Cliff-Top Walks

Walking along Jersey’s coastal path offers stunning views and the heady scent of gorse. Start from northern bays like Rozel or Bouley Bay and follow the path around the cliffs. Visit Jersey’s website for self-guided walks. Enjoy regular tea breaks and refreshing dips in the sea. Participate in wellness sessions organized by Jersey’s aspiring UNESCO Geopark, such as yoga classes at L’Etacquerel Fort with breathtaking cliff-top views.

5. Surf the Best Waves

St Ouen’s Bay is a surf hotspot, regardless of the weather or season. Established in 1923, Jersey Surf Club is among Europe’s first, and the island became a popular surf destination in the 1960s. The sea near the Watersplash offers clean breaks, with other good spots at Le Braye and Secrets. Northern beaches like Grève de Lecq and Plémont also provide excellent surfing conditions. Learn or improve your surfing skills with lessons from The Splash Surf Centre, Jersey Surf School, or Laneez Surf School, which offer programs from basic to advanced levels and summer camps for kids.
