From now on, the Atal Setu Bridge in Mumbai will be tolled
The government of Maharashtra has announced that starting February 1, 2024, the world's longest sea bridge, the Atal Setu in Mumbai, will be tolled for drivers. The fee will be INR 250 for a one-way trip. The law was passed for 30 years, from 2024 to 2053.
In the future, this fee may be adjusted. This is reported by News 18 with reference to the Cabinet of Ministers of Maharashtra.
The fee rates will increase by 6% annually. There are different rates for each type of transport: minibusses - 560 rupees, buses/2-axle trucks - 1,180 rupees, 3-axle trucks - 1,290 rupees, 4-6-axle vehicles - 1,850 rupees, and large vehicles - 2,250 rupees.
However, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists will be able to use the bridge for free.
The Atal Setu Bridge toll can be paid through electronic payment systems. Drivers will be able to pay for the toll using cards, mobile applications, or cash.
This innovation is expected to reduce traffic on the bridge. This, in turn, will reduce air pollution and noise in this area of Mumbai.
