Gloucestershire Enhances Travel with The Robin Bus Service Expansion
Gloucestershire County Council has announced the launch of The Robin bus service in the South Cotswolds on Monday, June 10. This new initiative aims to enhance travel and improve transport links in the picturesque region.
The Robin service will introduce two new vehicles to the South Cotswolds, serving areas including Tetbury, Lechlade, Northleach, Kemble, South Cerney, Fairford, and Birdlip. Travelers can conveniently book rides through phone, online, or an app, with flexible payment options available in cash or by card.
Since Autumn 2022, The Robin has been successfully operating in the North Cotswolds and Forest of Dean. This expansion is expected to provide similar benefits to the South Cotswolds, despite some limitations in service within Cirencester.
Local transport advocacy group, Cirencester Action on Buses, has expressed cautious optimism about the new service. A spokesperson highlighted the importance of additional bus services while noting the current unmet needs in Cirencester and the wider Cotswolds. They emphasized the importance of encouraging more residents to opt for public transport over personal vehicles.
Cllr Philip Robinson, the cabinet member responsible for buses, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, noting the positive impact on rural communities by improving access to employment, education, healthcare, and entertainment.
Roads Minister Guy Opperman commended the project, highlighting the government's financial support of over £4 million to boost local bus services. He stated that extending The Robin minibus to more areas will provide residents with better connections, making travel easier and more reliable.
