GTR Boosts Services for Brighton Pride Weekend to Accommodate Millions
With the annual Brighton Pride event just a week away, GTR aims to enhance the travel experience for the millions of passengers heading to the UK’s largest Pride celebration.
To facilitate the increased travel demand, GTR is running additional trains and increasing capacity. The collaboration with event organizers and local authorities ensures efficient transport to and from Brighton during the festivities.
GTR has announced an enhanced service plan for the Pride weekend:
On Saturday, August 3rd, all Thameslink services between London Bridge and Brighton on the Brighton Main Line will operate with 12-carriage trains, with additional evening trains available. All Gatwick Express services between London Victoria and Brighton will also run with 12-carriage trains. Services on the West Coastway, typically running between Brighton, Portsmouth, and Southampton, will terminate at Chichester, with connections available at Barnham or Chichester. On the East Coastway, additional carriages will be added to services throughout the day. On Sunday, August 4th, the regular timetable will be followed, with extra carriages added for increased capacity.
Also, a color-coded queuing system will be in place at Brighton station from late afternoon on both days to manage the crowd effectively:
Green Queue: For trains on the East Coastway towards Lewes, Seaford, and Eastbourne.
Purple Queue: For trains on the West Coastway towards Shoreham-by-Sea, Worthing, and Chichester.
Blue Queue: For trains on the Brighton Main Line towards Haywards Heath, Gatwick Airport, and London.
Due to the expected large number of attendees, it’s crucial to plan your journey well in advance. Allow extra travel time and check for any changes to your schedule before you leave. Note that Preston Park and London Road (Brighton) stations will be closed throughout the weekend, so all travelers must use Brighton station.
To avoid long queues, purchase your train tickets in advance, including your return trip. Remember, Oyster cards and Contactless payments are not valid south of Gatwick Airport. If using barcode e-tickets on your mobile, ensure your phone is charged and the ticket is accessible. Expect significant crowds, especially when leaving Brighton after the event. Allow at least an hour to reach Brighton station from any festival site or the seafront.
