Heraklion Airport in Crete will be closed for four days from February 19
Heraklion Airport in Crete will be closed from February 19 to 24 as maintenance and repair work is carried out on the runway.
In response to this announcement, Greek carriers Aegean and Sky Express said that passengers would be redirected to Chania or Sitia or offered a choice of ferry, Ekathimerini.com reports.
Thus, airport manager Yorgos Plakas said that the closure will not interfere with teams and fans traveling to the city for the Basketball Cup Final 8, as flights will stop on the afternoon of Monday, February 19, and will resume as scheduled in the morning of the same day.
Plyakas also noted that international flights at the airport, named after the famous writer Nikos Kazantzakis, are not expected to resume until around mid-March.
