Hurricane Milton Causes Flight Disruptions Between the UK and Florida
In anticipation of Hurricane Milton, which is set to impact Florida’s western shores, airlines have had to call off several flights connecting the UK with the US. According to Orlando International Airport, all commercial flights will cease from 8 AM on Wednesday, leading to major disruptions in air travel.
TUI, a British airline, has also stated that its flight operations will experience significant interruptions, especially in the Melbourne-Orlando region, where all flights will be grounded by noon. Virgin Atlantic followed suit, cancelling multiple flights due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Hurricane Milton is forecasted to hit Florida’s shores late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. Weather experts predict heavy tropical winds and intense rain, contributing to dangerous storm surges. Florida officials have already begun protective measures, including the distribution of sandbags to safeguard residential areas.
The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has alerted travelers to track storm developments via the US National Hurricane Center’s website and heed any advisories from local authorities.
Travelers in affected regions may face severe delays and flight cancellations. Those with plans to visit Florida, or those already there, are encouraged to rethink their itineraries over the coming days and keep an eye on updates from airlines and airports.
