IHG Hotels & Resorts Expands Its Network in Portugal
IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of nine new hotels in Portugal, adding 976 rooms to its portfolio. The Essentials Collection will be expanded with four new Holiday Inn Express hotels: Holiday Inn Express & Suites Lisbon – Amoreiras (192 rooms, opening in early 2025 in Lisbon’s financial district), Holiday Inn Express & Suites Portimão (60 rooms, opening in the first half of 2025 in the Algarve), Holiday Inn Express Porto – Boavista (91 rooms, opening in late 2024 in the Boavista area of Porto), and Holiday Inn Express Évora (76 rooms, opening in late 2024 in a historic building in Évora).
IHG’s Vice President of Development in Europe, Willemijn Geels, underscore the trust owners have in these brands. She emphasized the importance of the new additions in expanding IHG's presence in Portugal.
Two new Holiday Inn hotels have also been added to the portfolio: Holiday Inn Braga (114 rooms, opening in late 2024 in the city of Braga) and Holiday Inn Beja (95 rooms, opening in late 2024 within the medieval walls of Beja Castle). These hotels will offer convenient locations and modern amenities, making them ideal for tourists and business travelers.
Among the luxury and lifestyle hotels, IHG has signed three new properties: Kimpton Lisbon (141 rooms, opening in early 2026), Hotel Indigo Albufeira (80 rooms, opening in mid-2025), and Hotel Indigo Faro (127 rooms, opening in late 2026). These hotels will provide high levels of service and prime locations in popular tourist destinations, attracting both local and international guests.
Portugal has become a key market for IHG due to rapid growth in recent years. Among the latest openings are Vignette Collection Casa da Companhia and Vignette Collection Lisbon Convent Square. Kimpton Algarve São Rafael Atlántico, set to open in 2025, has also been signed.
With these additions, IHG now operates 20 hotels in Portugal across seven brands and has a robust pipeline of 15 new properties, highlighting the growth of the hospitality market in the country.
