In Florence, Italy, environmental activists glued a photo of the devastating effects of climate change to a glass panel on Sandro Botticelli's famous painting The Birth of Venus.
The action was organized by two activists from Last Generation. They managed to publish an image of the stickers attached to the 15th-century painting in the Uffizi Gallery before being taken to the police station, Barron's reports.
"The government continues to pretend that fields didn't burn in January, that water won't be a problem this summer, that houses destroyed by floods are random events and not caused by human choice," said one protester.
In January, Italy's parliament approved a law that toughens penalties for people who damage monuments and cultural sites following a series of climate protests.
