In the USA, a plane crashed onto a highway and caught fire: two people died
Friday, February 9, was a tragic day for Florida. A small passenger plane flying from Ohio crashed on Interstate 75 near Naples. The accident claimed the lives of two individuals and left three others injured.
Authorities suspect that the plane experienced engine failure, leading to the fatal crash. Pilot Edward Daniel Murphy and co-pilot Ian Frederick Hoffman were killed on impact, according to ABC News.
The three survivors, one crew member and two passengers, managed to escape from the burning wreckage. They were transported to a local hospital with injuries of unknown severity.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are conducting an investigation into the crash's cause. Initial reports suggest that the pilot had reported engine issues prior to the crash.
NTSB investigators are working to ascertain all the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. A preliminary report is expected to be issued within 30 days.
Footage from the scene depicts the burning plane and billowing black smoke. Witnesses described the scene as "chaotic and tense."
