"Crazy" prices in New Zealand supermarkets: a Briton said he would "subsist on air"
A British expatriate living in New Zealand expressed his astonishment at the prices of food in local supermarkets. The video featuring his commentary on the price tags went viral, sparking a lively discussion among users.
"Let's see how expensive New Zealand products are in 2024," the author of the TikTok video sarcastically began, showcasing the shelves at Woolworths.
Among the "outrageous" prices he recorded were:
- A package of green grapes for $15.
- A "disgustingly looking" apple pie for $4.50.
- A 750-gram bag of roasted almonds for $16 (on sale).
- Wilted flowers for $50.
The Briton also pointed out other price tags: Cocoa Pops for $8, birthday cards for $5.99, a 295-milliliter bottle of Heinz Garlic Lovers Aioli for $6.60, and a kilogram jar of naturally sweetened yogurt for $7.15.
"So it looks like I'll be surviving on air from now on," Curles joked at the end of the video, highlighting how expensive the local prices appear to a British expatriate.
