ITA Airways Enhances UK-Italy Connections with New London City to Rome Route
ITA Airways has announced an expansion of its services in the UK by launching a direct flight between Rome–Fiumicino Airport and London City Airport, starting from March 31st, 2024. This move aims to cater to both business and leisure travelers, offering a convenient connection between the two capital cities.
The newly introduced route will be operated with the Airbus A220-100, offering 12 weekly frequencies. This aircraft is celebrated for its comfort and efficiency, making it an ideal choice for short-haul connections like this one. London City Airport, known for its central location and swift service, and Rome’s Fiumicino, being a major hub for ITA Airways, are strategically chosen to enhance passengers' convenience and accessibility to central destinations.
Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer at ITA Airways, and CEO of Volare, expressed enthusiasm about the new service, highlighting the significance of the UK market for the airline. The route is expected to attract a mix of business and leisure travelers, providing them with easy access to ITA Airways’ extensive network, including domestic and intercontinental flights from Rome Fiumicino to various destinations across the Mediterranean and South America.
The Airbus A220-100, which will service the route, is the smallest jetliner in the ITA Airways fleet. Its design focuses on passenger comfort and environmental sustainability, featuring spacious seating, large windows, and advanced air filtration systems. Furthermore, the aircraft is equipped with modern amenities such as Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing passengers to stay connected during their flight.
This addition comes as part of ITA Airways' broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the UK. Earlier this year, the airline increased its service between Milan Linate and London City Airport, with plans to further expand in April 2024. The new routes and increased frequencies emphasize ITA Airways' commitment to serving the Italian and British markets, offering over 100 weekly flights between the two countries during the peak summer season.
