James A. Garfield National Historic Site Presents Six Free Summer Concerts
This summer, James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor will be alive with music as it hosts six free outdoor concerts. The concerts, held against the picturesque backdrop of the Garfield home, promise delightful evenings of entertainment.
Scheduled on various dates throughout the summer, these concerts feature a diverse lineup of talented bands:
Tuesday, May 28, 7 p.m.: The Hillcrest Concert Band
Thursday, June 6, 7 p.m.: University Heights Symphonic Band
Saturday, June 22, 2 p.m.: Erie Heights Brass Ensemble
Saturday, July 20, 2 p.m.: Lake Effect Concert Band
Sunday, July 28, 2 p.m.: Lakeland Community College Summer Band
Saturday, August 17, 2 p.m.: Great Geauga County Fair Band
Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, sunscreen, and refreshments to enjoy while listening to the music. Picnic baskets are welcome; however, alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the premises.
Acting Site Manager Allison Powell expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, "The lawn behind the Garfield home provides a perfect setting for live music. These concerts also offer a unique connection to the history of Garfield’s 1880 presidential campaign, evoking memories of the numerous bands that performed here for the candidate and his family."
The summer concert series is proudly sponsored by the James A. Garfield Alliance and The Garfield Trail of Ohio.
