Japanese man learns to cook real Mexican tacos and conquers local gourmets: photo
Furuya Yamato, a 50-year-old Japanese man who travelled to Mexico and fell in love with the local culture and food, returned home and opened a hottest spot serving unrivalled authentic Mexican street tacos.
His Tacos 3Hermanos food truck in Tokyo, which he runs himself and two other assistants, is extremely popular. Tourists and locals alike claim that you won't find tacos like this anywhere else in the world, CNN. reports.
After the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, Yamato faced many challenges and decided to travel to distant Mexico to change his life.
After a few years in Mexico City, during which he learned to cook a variety of foods, Yamato returned to Japan in early 2018 to take care of his elderly parents. Unable to find the flavours that captured his heart, he tried to recreate the authentic taste of Mexico himself, drawing inspiration from Suadero's street tacos in Mexico City.
During the pandemic, Yamato organised a taco event to share his creations with the public. Many people enjoyed his food, so he decided to invest in a mobile truck.
To achieve maximum authenticity and honour the country that inspired him, Yamato orders most of his ingredients from Mexico, although imports can be more expensive. Even the crockery in his restaurant is Mexican.
