JetBlue Launches New Direct Flights from New York to Edinburgh
JetBlue announced the expansion of its transatlantic services with new nonstop flights from New York to Edinburgh, which commence today. The daily summer-seasonal service will operate from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Edinburgh Airport (EDI) through September 30, 2024. This new route introduces competitive options for travelers between New York and Edinburgh.
The new service is JetBlue’s second direct flight from JFK to Edinburgh, offering low fares and quality service. Marty St. George, JetBlue's president, emphasized the airline's role in providing affordable transatlantic travel, breaking the market's reliance on high-fare legacy carriers.
JetBlue’s new route is expected to strengthen ties between the US and the UK, particularly benefiting tourism and business sectors. John Lamont, UK Government Minister for Scotland, highlighted the importance of this connection, noting its potential to boost tourism and export markets. He recently participated in Tartan Day celebrations in New York, promoting Scottish culture and exports.
The introduction of JetBlue's service marks its first foray into Scotland, a move welcomed by Scottish officials. Jim Fairlie, Connectivity Minister, noted that this route would enhance business connectivity and tourism, reinforcing Edinburgh Airport's bid for a U.S. pre-clearance facility. Malcolm Roughead of VisitScotland highlighted the growing demand for travel to Scotland, with North America being a key market. The direct flights will support Scotland's tourism industry by attracting visitors drawn to its landscapes, history, and culture.
JetBlue's flights will utilize Airbus A321neo aircraft featuring Mint Suite® seats and enhanced fuel efficiency, ensuring a comfortable and environmentally friendly travel experience. The new route promises to benefit both American and Scottish travelers, fostering stronger bilateral relations.
