Life in travel: a man bought an apartment on a cruise ship
A 28-year-old man from San Diego was able to find the cheat code to live his best life. Austin Wells traded land for water as he decided to buy an apartment on a cruise ship and insisted that it was cheaper.
The American told how an apartment on a cruise ship would save him money. Austin Wells was one of the first to buy a studio apartment on the new MV Narrative, a mega-cruise ship with 500 private rooms and suites. This was reported by cnbc.com.
This man seems to have everything: from delicious food and the best views to remote work and free time.
Wells said that he spent $300,000 (£238,000) on a 12-year lease for a studio apartment aboard the MV Narrative. Wells's room is 237 square feet and has a desk, shower, storage room, and a rollaway bed. However, the ship is still under construction in Croatia and is not expected to set sail until 2025.
Residents of the cruise ship will have access not only to a private gym and a farmers' market, but also to medical services, 24-hour room service, and private kitchens. In addition, the ship has 20 restaurants and bars, a school, a library, a bank, a cinema and a swimming pool.
Wells, 28, whose job at Meta is in the augmented and virtual reality division, shared: "The thing that excites me the most is that I don't have to change my daily routine to go see the world. My working hours will be shifted to the evening, night, and very early morning, but it opens up the possibility for me to see the city from noon to day."
He added: "This is probably the first time that it is even possible to have a standard job and consider living in a floating apartment complex."
An apartment in San Diego costs about $2,500 (£1,987) a month, and Wells' room at MV Narrative will cost him about $2,000 (£1,587) a month.
Alistair Panton and Shannon Lee, owners of the Storyline brand of luxury residential ships, came up with MV Narrative because they "wanted to offer more affordable apartments for living at sea." So about 1,000 people will call MV Narrative home when it sets sail in a few years: there will be 11 different types of homes on board.
