Lufthansa Launches Direct Flights from Minneapolis-Saint Paul to Frankfurt
Lufthansa has introduced a new non-stop service connecting Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota, with Frankfurt, Germany. This development, which commenced today, provides travelers in the Twin Cities with year-round access to Lufthansa Group’s extensive network across Europe and beyond.
The new route, operated by a Boeing 787-9, is part of Lufthansa's broader expansion strategy in the United States, a key market for the airline. "We are thrilled to connect the vibrant Twin Cities with Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub," stated Dirk Janzen, Vice President Passenger Sales, The Americas, Lufthansa Group. This route marks a significant milestone in their summer expansion plan.
Flight LH482 departs from Frankfurt at 11:10 a.m. and arrives in Minneapolis-Saint Paul at 1:15 p.m., while the return flight, LH483, leaves Minneapolis at 3:05 p.m. and lands in Frankfurt at 6:30 a.m. the next day. This service operates five times a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, providing a convenient schedule for travelers.
Brian Ryks, CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, expressed enthusiasm for the new route, noting the significant demand for travel to Germany and other European destinations. Lufthansa’s new service is projected to serve over 35,500 passengers traveling from MSP to Germany and nearly 365,000 passengers to Europe annually. The new route not only meets this demand but also offers expanded options for global travel.
The Boeing 787-9 aircraft features 30 Business Class seats, 21 Premium Economy seats, and 215 Economy Class seats. This aircraft is noted for its fuel efficiency, consuming up to 30 percent less kerosene than previous models, and features the largest windows ever fitted on an aircraft, enhancing the in-flight experience.
With the addition of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul route, Lufthansa Group now operates flights to 26 gateways in the United States, offering approximately 400 weekly flights during the summer schedule. This expansion includes new routes from Seattle to Munich and increased capacity to Washington D.C. with an A380 from Munich. Furthermore, Lufthansa will launch direct service from Raleigh-Durham to Frankfurt on June 6th.
