MeetMeOnBoard Launches New LGBTQ Cruise App
In June 2024, MeetMeOnBoard launched its new app, a platform designed for LGBTQ travelers to book cruises and connect. The website was founded by Mark den Hartog and Dale McCurdy and later acquired by cruise industry veteran Adam Martindale in 2022. Martindale shared insights into the development and future plans of the app.
Powered by Cruise Planners’ search functionalities, the app allows users to find cruises from various lines. Martindale mentioned that they are working to add charter cruises and have partnered with LGBTQ tour companies like Brand g Vacations and Vacaya to organize group cruises.
The MeetMeOnBoard app underwent a year-long development process with multiple testing phases involving real users. Martindale noted, "We received positive initial feedback and requests for more engagement tools, such as chat features and a cabin-sharing option, both of which are being developed." The next update is expected in Fall 2024, with nearly 1,000 registered users and over 500 joined cruises already.
Martindale envisions the website and app merging into one platform, although this will take time. He highlighted changes in the cruising landscape for queer travelers post-pandemic, with increased interest in cabin sharing and group cruises. "Our goal is to help LGBTQ travelers connect and become the ultimate resource for cruising," he said. The MeetMeOnBoard app aims to facilitate these connections, ensuring a successful future.
