Miami International Airport served a record number of passengers in 2023
In 2023, Miami International Airport (MIA) achieved a historic milestone in passenger traffic. Throughout the year, the airport witnessed a steady increase in the number of travelers, welcoming over 52 million passengers, marking a 3% increase compared to 2022.
According to Simple Flying, American Airlines played a significant role in MIA's success as its largest carrier. American Airlines expanded its operations during the year, introducing new routes and increasing seating capacity, particularly during the winter months.
On Friday, MIA announced that 2023 marked an "unprecedented" year of growth. Thanks to record-breaking passenger and cargo numbers, coupled with enhanced maintenance and capital investments, the airport served 52.3 million passengers, its highest annual figure ever recorded.
However, domestic traffic experienced a slight decline of approximately half a percent compared to 2022, yet it still surpassed the 29 million mark.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Danielle Levine Cava stated, "The continued success of MIA as a global gateway and Miami's status as a premier tourist destination is a testament to our remarkable achievement - the second consecutive record-breaking year. Substantial investments in infrastructure and maintenance in 2023 underscore MIA's commitment to remaining at the forefront."
It is noteworthy that out of the 52 million passengers served last year, 31.4 million were Americans.
