Although advancements in artificial intelligence have only recently begun to develop, South Korea has already inaugurated a museum dedicated to its progress. This country is renowned for staying at the forefront of cutting-edge technologies, being the first in the world to introduce 5G mobile communications and boasting one of the fastest internet connection speeds globally.

At the Seoul Robot and Artificial Intelligence Museum (RAIM), visitors are welcomed by a robot at the entrance and have the opportunity to engage with various smart technologies, ranging from robots to augmented/virtual reality features.

The construction of this museum is slated for completion in the third quarter of 2024. With its striking spherical shape, the future museum will function as an exhibition/education space and research center. Not only will it showcase robots and other innovations in the artificial intelligence field, but robots will also assist in constructing the museum. Architect and designer Melike Altinisik, founder of the firm creating the museum, stated, "From design, manufacturing to construction and services, smart technology will be responsible for everything. In other words, RAIM will commence its 'first exhibition' with smart design and construction."

Explore South Korea as a "digital nomad"

Starting January 1, foreigners are permitted to work remotely in Korea for up to two years under a new "workcation" visa, also known as a "digital nomad" visa, announced last month by the country's Ministry of Justice.

"To facilitate remote work and leisure in Korea for foreigners, we have decided to introduce a new 'digital nomad' visa," the ministry stated, acknowledging the growing trend of remote work among individuals. Previously, foreigners were permitted to stay in the country for fewer than 90 days without a work visa. The new visa enables "employees and employers of foreign firms to travel and work remotely in Korea for an extended period," the ministry noted.

Under the latest system, visa holders can work remotely in South Korea for one year with the option to renew their stay for an additional year.

Applicants for the visa must be at least 18 years old, possess at least a year of experience in their field, and have a minimum annual income exceeding 84.96 million won ($63,624).

"We hope this visa will be an opportunity for us to showcase our country and our culture," the ministry said.
