New Bus Services to Enhance Travel in Cardiff Starting June 30, 2024
Starting June 30, 2024, Transport for Wales will operate a new bus interchange at Central Square, Cardiff. Featuring 14 bus bays, this hub is set to significantly improve travel connections across the city. With better integration between bus, rail, walking, cycling, and wheeling, this new interchange will serve the transportation needs of both residents and travelers, making it easier to explore Cardiff and its surroundings.
The interchange is part of the "Metro Central" project, aimed at creating a seamless transportation network in Cardiff’s city center. This initiative will support a "turn up and go" model, allowing travelers to switch effortlessly between different modes of public transport. For tourists, this means a more convenient and flexible way to navigate the city and visit its many attractions.
Located at Cardiff Bus Interchange, Central Square, Cardiff, CF10 1GF, the hub will be open daily, ensuring accessibility before the first bus departure and after the last one. This extended schedule caters to the needs of both early and late travelers.
Cardiff Bus Interchange will also act as a central information point for transportation, where staff will assist with inquiries, guide travelers on accessing services, and help plan journeys. The close proximity to Cardiff Central railway station, just a five-minute walk away, enhances the convenience for tourists who want to combine bus and rail travel.
Starting June 30, Cardiff Bus and Stagecoach will operate initial services from the interchange, with more services expected to join in September 2024. This phased rollout ensures a gradual improvement in travel options for visitors.
For those eager to preview the new facilities, the interchange will be open to the public on June 27, 28, and 29 from 07.00 to 19.00. This preview offers travelers a chance to familiarize themselves with the amenities and ask any questions they might have.
