New Digital Art Installation Transforms Moynihan Train Hall
Amtrak’s public art program, Art at Amtrak, has unveiled a new digital video installation at Moynihan Train Hall. The installation, titled "We Are Made of Time" by artists Tin & Ed, will be showcased on the hall’s impressive 160-foot-wide LED digital screens until July 15. Notably, this marks the first time the program will also feature the installation on the station's digital advertising boards.
"We Are Made of Time" condenses 4.5 billion years of Earth's geological history into a mesmerizing visual experience. The installation invites viewers to perceive time as non-linear, illustrating the interconnectedness of cosmic, geological, and biological events through stunning visual loops and patterns.
Tin & Ed’s work integrates scanned elements such as Tennessee Marble, used in the construction of Moynihan Train Hall, with procedurally modeled rocks, minerals, and fossils. This blend of historical and contemporary elements creates a dynamic and ever-shifting landscape, offering a unique educational journey for travelers.
Launched in June 2022, Art at Amtrak aims to enrich the travel experience by transforming stations into vibrant art galleries. Sharon Tepper, Director of Art at Amtrak, highlighted the initiative’s role in enhancing customer experience through engaging and educational art.
The introduction of "We Are Made of Time" at Moynihan Train Hall underscores Amtrak's commitment to integrating art into public spaces, providing travelers with both visual delight and intellectual stimulation as they journey through the station.
