Young travelers in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough can now explore the region more affordably with the new 'Tiger' bus pass, which offers bus fares for just £1. This initiative, part of the Combined Authority's plan to improve public transport, aims to make travel easier and more budget-friendly for those under 25.
The pass is designed to help young people travel to various destinations, including educational institutions, workplaces, shopping centers, and social gatherings, without worrying about high transport costs.
Applying for the Tiger pass is simple and free. Young travelers need to visit the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority website, provide a photo, and proof of age. The pass, featuring a distinctive tiger-inspired design, must be shown to the bus driver to access the discounted fare. Without this pass, the £1 fare is not available.
Introduced earlier this year, the Tiger pass represents the first phase of a broader initiative to upgrade the region’s bus network. This initial phase also includes the launch of 30 new or improved bus routes, developed based on feedback from a public survey conducted by the Combined Authority last December. Additional enhancements linked to the Tiger brand are expected to be announced over the summer.
Dr. Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, emphasized the importance of quality public transport for residents. He highlighted that the creation of new bus routes and the introduction of affordable fares are crucial steps towards building a reliable, environmentally friendly transport network that supports the local economy.
The Combined Authority's strategy, Road to Better Buses, also includes plans for reviewing and renovating bus stops and incorporating electric buses into the fleet. These efforts aim to enhance the reliability, expand bus routes, and improve the overall quality of buses and travel information.
For young travelers, the Tiger pass is a valuable tool, making it easier and cheaper to explore the diverse attractions and opportunities Cambridgeshire and Peterborough have to offer.
