Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A Wins Skytrax’s Best New Airport Terminal Award
Newark Liberty International Airport's new Terminal A has been awarded the title of Best New Airport Terminal in the world by Skytrax, a globally recognized airport evaluation firm. This prestigious recognition comes just a month after the terminal received a five-star Skytrax rating following a comprehensive audit of its facilities, operations, and customer service.
Skytrax's evaluation is considered a global benchmark for airport excellence, drawing from passenger surveys conducted between August 2023 and March 2024. These surveys assess various aspects of the airport experience, including check-in, security, immigration, shopping, and customer service. Terminal A's recognition at the 2024 Skytrax World Airport Awards, held at the Passenger Terminal Expo & Conference in Frankfurt, Germany, is a significant achievement for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The terminal's design incorporates state-of-the-art amenities and local artwork, catering to a diverse range of passenger needs. Terminal A features a sensory room for neurodivergent travelers and their families, a children's play area, and a lending library curated by a local fifth-grader. The 1-million-square-foot terminal opened in phases throughout 2023, quickly serving 15 million passengers and outperforming the previous 50-year-old Terminal A.
Port Authority Chairman Kevin O'Toole and other officials attended the award ceremony in Frankfurt, celebrating this achievement. The success of Terminal A represents a broader renaissance at Newark Liberty International Airport, part of a $30 billion redevelopment project across New York and New Jersey's major airports. LaGuardia Airport's Terminal B was also recognized as the best new airport terminal in 2023, further highlighting the transformation underway in the region's airports.
