Notre Dame Cathedral to be equipped with fire safety system
The iconic monument of French architecture was severely damaged in a fire in April 2019. Although the cathedral is being actively restored and prepared for reopening, it is planned to install a fire protection system.
This system will help prevent the spread of fire in the cathedral. This was announced by Philippe Jost, President of the Rebâtir Notre-Dame de Paris public establishment, according to The Local France.
According to him, the cathedral will be equipped with an evaporation system installed under the roof and on the spire. It will immediately stop the spread of any fire.
"We have taken all the precautions to completely revise the fire protection," Philippe said.
More than five years have passed since the fire, and investigators are still looking into its cause. The initial investigation indicated that it was probably an accident. Theories include an electrical fault or a cigarette.
Macron had initially promised to rebuild Notre Dame within five years for the Paris Olympics. However, after the first setbacks in the restoration, he set a new deadline. The cathedral will reopen in December 2024.
